In this section of the web site, we will be celebrating the colourful club players of the Lara Bowling Club.

Tommy Seddon

Tom is one of the most recognisable figures at the club. He plays mid-week and Saturday pennant, and social Thursdays throughout the year.

Tom Seddon

I interviewed Tom (His comments in italics) after a recent Thursday social game and here is what he had to say about the sport of Lawn Bowls and the Lara Bowling Club.

  • What first got you involved with the game of Lawn Bowling and how long have you been a member of the club? I got too old for playing golf and started lawn bowls at Lara in 1978...55 years of age. During that time I have only missed 2 games, and I think that I have played about 700 pennant games for the club. I've only ever played for the Lara club.

  • Do you have a nickname; do you remember how you got it? [Smiles] Yes, "Tommy Two Touchers"

  • What type of bowls do you currently use? I recently got some new bowls, about a year ago, Henselite XG, size 3

  • What are your fondest moments/memories in your lawn bowling career? I won the club champion mens singles, I've won the pairs five times and the triples five times as well. I was also part of the team that won the A2 division premiership and the Night Pennant...I also won the Portarlington Classic with Eileen and Margaret Gillet and Graham Ott. And in 2015 I was a part of the Div 5 Pennant victory for the club.
When you are next at the club, check the Honour Boards in the club foyer to see Tom's achievements both individually and with his team mates.

  • Do you have any bowling superstitions? No, not really.

  • Do you have any advice or tips you can give to your fellow bowlers? Yes, You must never turn your back on a bowl, it can tell you what you are doing wrong so that you can make the correction with your next bowl, you only get 2 bowls in pennant. And always remember that Lawn Bowls is a team game and that you must help eachother out when you play pennant.

Tom is also called upon each Saturday to lead the club song, he has been doing this for years and always begins by saying, "It's been a great day for the club..."

When you are next at the club, check the Honour Boards in the club foyer to see Tom's achievements both individually and with his team mates.
