Keith Sanderson, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 Romsey Open 4's Event - Sunday 21 September 2014
Ask any Bowler, Lara Bowlers are very competitive and we love to win!
Three teams ventured to Romsey for their open event and we did not disappoint. Tony Greenwood's team consisting of Sam Tennent, Andrew Ferrier & Chris Havers won their 1st game with ease. The “Giants” team, Bully (Anthony Gilmore), Leggsy (Laurie Gilmore), Lumpy (Les Anderson) & Woody (Greg Woodhouse) also won their 1st game with ease. Onto the “Shorter” of the teams, Terry Fish, Keith Sanderson, Garry Hinch & Gavin Lane who just scraped home but won their game also.
The 2nd game was a little different with Tony going down by the smallest of margins with Bully & Gav both winning their games.
Down to the last game and the competition was on. It was just a matter of winning the last game to be in with a chance of taking the money and both sides knew it. The bantering started as both Bully & Gav had rinks next to each other. It wasn’t a matter of how many shots up because the rules were counted on “games & ends won”. Bully’s team had the edge on Gav’s team but it wasn’t over yet. Then the best bowls you will ever see were played with two bowls being “resting touchers”. The umpire was called and he couldn’t split them. They were awarded ½ a point each. Bully’s side were now “sniggering” at the possibility that the ½ a point would give them the edge, but alas, when the counting was done, Gav’s team had 51 points with Bully’s team on 50-1/2. Unfortunately the Kilmore team also had 51 points but the percentage to Gav’s side was greater and the Romsey champions are now Fish, Sando, Hinchy and Laney.
Bully, Lumpy, Woody and Leggsy picked up best last game winner.
A great day was had by all and we will certainly return the visit next year.
The moral of the story by the way is:
THE BIGGER THEY COME, THE HARDER THEY FALL !!!!
