Weekly round up, 6/2/2016

With three rounds to go in the 2015-2016 season, the club returned a mix bag of results across the divisions.

Premier League hosted City of Geelong with the final score of Lara 84, defeated by COG 96. Only 12 shots separated the sides at the end of play on what was a hot Summer afternoon of bowls.

John O'Donnell's rink was the only rink to get up for 2 points with Paul Cook leading, Don Grellett as second and side manager Mick Kelly as third.

The boys have the task to get up for a big win against the Avenue next Saturday, all the best!

Unfortunately our Division 1 side lost heavily to Belmont at their ground, none of the rinks got up but well done to all the players as they are facing stiff opposition week in and week out against the top sides of other clubs; Lara being the only number 2 side in the whole division.

Division 3 is on fire! Sitting at the top of the table, the team had a significant 37 shot victory against City of Geelong away from home. The young Polwarth brothers, Ian and Robert lead their rink to a 16 point win, with the assistance of Annette Harris as lead and Don Plozza as second. Another 16 point win was recorded by Skip Robert Grosset's side. Well played Division 3.

Division 4 faced Highton at home and went down by 18 shots, there was dissapointment felt by all as we beat them on their home turf earlier in the season and felt that this was a victory to be had. Highton was too good on the day, two rinks did get up so 4 points was had, well skipped wins by Drew Hamence and Greg Woodhouse. A must win game next week for Division 4 away to Barwon Heads.

Division 6 were away to Belmont and came out in front with a big 32 shot win! K.Richardsons rink with Bob Dick, Kerry Howe and Bernie Harris came up with a 30 shot rink win and the division is sitting in the middle of the table with a good shot of making the finals this year.

Division 9 played at home and hosted Bareena and came up with a massive 49 shot win, with only 2 rinks in the Division, this was a massive effort and the team of Charlie Mallia, Mick Cook, Jennifer Verhoef and Sue Wilson won the drinks on the day with a 49-11 rink win, well done to you all!

And Division 10 came up trumps with a 7 shot win over Torquay away from home, a great result for the players.

In other news the Mens Triples have commenced with two teams who have collectively won the title for the last five years running, playing in the first round! Bully, Leggs and Skip got up against Joe VB, Woody and and Robert Smith to make the second round of the event.

The 100-up is also underway and all participants should check the boards at the club for the latest results and for participants to have their games played by the due dates as close as you can.

The end of season trip has also been organised, the event is fully subscribed but do put your name down as an emergency if you're keen to get a spot if there is a cancellation.

The club has set up a YouTube channel to host our club videos, you can find our channel here.

That's it for the first weekly round up to be published online, we hope to keep this going as weekly post during the pennant season, with updates through the off season. If you have any stories, photos or videos that you would like to see published then please contact: media@larabowlingclub.com.au
